Powell s/n 956

Handmade, C# Trill, Low B

Verne Q. Powell flute #956, made in 1950. Solid silver, Handmade model, .014" tubing, soldered tone holes, French open hole, C# trill, B-foot without gizmo, inline G, Bb shake, white gold springs, felt pads, traditional scale.

#956 is in very good condition, some tarnish, the pads cover adequately for casual playing, some wear in the mechanism, smooth action, very crisp engravings which were the work of Verne Powell himself. The embouchure is original and well shaped. Our flute has a wonderful robust old Powell sound with beautiful shades of colors, sweet singing middle register, full bottom, and a silvery top. It vibrates nicely under the fingers. It comes in a modern Northwind French case in excellent condition.

Maker’s marks are on all three joints, serial number on the body only.

The embouchure hole measures 10.4 x 12.1 mm.

Sounding length is 639 mm.

Headjoint length is 9”.

The flute weighs 446 grams.
