Verne Q. Powell flute #3701,
made in 1972, Handmade French Model, soldered tone hole, .014”, solid silver,
open hole, pointed arms, inline G, Bb shake, C-foot, gold springs, no adjusting
screws, Straubinger pads, traditional scale.
Powell #3701 is in very good
condition, ready to play. The pads look very fresh and sealing well, good
mechanism, some tarnish, no dents. This flute was very well taken care of. It
was made when a group of forward-looking young flutemakers was working at
Powell, Bickford Brannen was their leader. Many of these workers would
eventually joined Brannen Brothers Flutes or formed their own flute companies. Our
flute plays with a robust and vibrant sound, very fast response. The
traditional Powell scale is widely regarded as one of the finest 440 scales
ever produced, providing remarkable evenness throughout the range and making
large interval skips feel smooth and effortless. It comes in its original
French case in well-used condition.
Maker’s marks are on body and headjoint, serial number on the body only.
