Verne Q. Powell flute #306,

Powell’s 300 series flutes
are very special, played by many renowned players of the time. They are highly
sought after by those who have experienced their magic. These pre-war
instruments were made before the expansion of Powell. In 1937, Powell produced
just 42 instruments, and only 7 were Commercial model. There is hardly any distinction
in quality between Handmade and Commercial flutes during this time.
Powell #306 is in good used
condition, the mechanism is excellent, the pads cover adequately for casual
playing, some tarnish, no dent. This flute was well taken care of. The sound is
truly beautiful, very free high notes, sweet middle and a big low register. The
flute vibrates under your fingers. The color palette is wide and complex - a
hallmark of Powell's early work. It reflects his deep understanding of the
Louis Lot tradition. The experience of playing this flute is nothing less than
authentic. It comes in its original case in poor condition.
Maker’s mark on body and headjoint, serial number on body only.
The embouchure hole measures 10.5 x 12.2 mm.
Sounding length is 595 mm.
Headjoint length is 8-3/4”.
The flute weighs 421 grams.
