John Lunn flute serial #124,
soldered tone hole, handmade, .016”, solid silver, plateau, pointed arms,
offset G, Bb shake, C# trill, convertible B/C-foot, angled footjoint cluster,
gold springs, no adjusting screws, felt pads, A=442 modern scale.
John Lunn #124 is an
exceptional flute. It transcends the traditional boundaries between musical
instrument and fine art sculpture. By integrating labor-intensive repoussé and
chasing metalwork into a functional flute design, Lunn transformed this flute
into a unique masterpiece. Since John Lunn’s retirement in 2020, interest in
his flutes has steadily grown among collectors. As appreciation for his
craftsmanship continues to increase, his instruments are well positioned to
become highly collectible works of functional art.
Our flute is done in the Art
Nouveau-style vine and leaf keywork, showcasing its distinctive craftsmanship
and timeless design. It is in excellent condition and produces a sweet, clear,
and beautiful tone. The flute was overhauled about 10 years ago by Lunn, and
saw very little playing since. It is fine for casual playing. A clean, oil, and
adjustment (COA) would further refresh the instrument and help it perform at
its best. It comes in its original case in good condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only, monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 11.8 mm.
Sounding lengths are 596 mm for C-foot, 636 mm for B-foot.
Headjoint length is 8-3/4”.
The flute weighs 473 grams with C-foot, 497 grams with B-foot.
