Powell Period Haynes Flute
Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#8275, made in 1925. Solid silver, Regular Model, Y-arms, drawn tone holes,
close hole, offset G, Bb shake, .018”, headjoint guard ring, forged keys and
touches, adjustment screws, gold springs, pinned C-foot with double roller, Straubinger
pads, traditional scale.
Haynes #8275 is in excellent
condition, pads are sealing well, good mechanism, some tarnish, ready to play.
It has one ripped pad on the low C# key. It was made at the high point of
Powell’s career at Haynes - just one year before his departure to form his own
company. The engraving bears the small “v”s often attributed to his work. The
tone of this flute is strong and vibrant. It comes in a Protec case in good
condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 12.2 mm.
Sounding length is 600 mm.
Headjoint length is 9”.
The flute weighs 431 grams.
