The end of the Great War
ushered in the era of the silver flute in the US. Haynes flute production
shifted dramatically, with silver flutes overwhelmingly outpacing their wooden
counterparts in sales. Verne Q. Powell was a major force at the Haynes
workshop. As a master engraver, he subtly personalized the Haynes logo,
transforming the serifs of the letter 'S' into distinctive 'V' shapes as found
on our flute.
Haynes #5283, though
currently unplayable due to moth-damaged pads, presents a remarkably
well-preserved instrument. Its overall condition is very good, promising an
excellent flute of historical significance upon restoration. There are a couple
minor dents, which could easily be addressed during an overhaul. The headjoint
was tested on another Haynes flute with excellent result. It comes in its
original French case in good condition, though missing its two push buttons.
