Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial #46880, made in 1982. Solid silver, handmade French model, soldered tone holes, open hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, offset G, Bb shake, D# roller, B-foot, .013" tubing, forged keys and touches, gold springs, felt pads, Deveau scale.
Haynes #46880 was made one year after Lou Deveau introduced his new scale. It was his answer to the modern Cooper scale flutes offered by his competitors Brannen and Powell. Our flute is in fine playing condition, some tarnish. The pads are older but sealing well. The mechanism is in good condition, a sign of a well maintained instrument. The headjoint is well cut, a high wall model drawn on the #9 arbor. It was special ordered by Mary Louis Poor (1923-2021), a well known flutist and teacher. The flute has a very beautiful and yet robust sound. It is easy to articulate fast and cleanly. Strong low register and vibrant sound. It comes in its original case in fair condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 11.9 mm.
