A Heavy Wall Handmade Haynes
Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#45648, made in 1980. Solid silver, handmade French model, soldered tone holes,
open hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, in line G, B-foot, Bb shake,
.018” tubing, forged keys and touches, gold springs, felt pads, traditional
scale.
Haynes #45648 is in fair condition with an excellent mechanism. The pads are older and only covering adequately. There is a small dent on the headjoint, moderate amount of tarnish, and some swirl marks. In its current condition, this flute still plays beautifully with a rich, dark, robust tone. An overhaul is recommended for professional use. The smaller embouchure hole, as compared to most Haynes of this vintage, is easy to control and has a wide range of tone colors. It comes in a generic case in good condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only, monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 12.1 mm.
Sounding length is 638 mm
Headjoint length is 8-7/8”.
The flute weighs 479 grams.
