Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#40052, made in 1972. Solid silver, handmade French model, soldered tone holes,
open hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, inline G, B-foot, Bb shake,
.013” tubing, forged keys and touches, gold springs, felt pads, traditional
scale, A=440.
Haynes #40052 is in good
shape, the pads are sealing adequately for casual playing, an overhaul is
recommended for serious performances. As it stands, this flute would be a
fantastic second instrument. The embouchure hole is nicely done and not
oversized, it is easy to control and offers the player a beautiful tone in all
registers. The thin body balances the strong headjoint in the most subtle ways,
color and dynamic changes are easily achieved with the slightest effort. It
comes in its original case in good condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 12.1 mm.
Sounding length is 637 mm.
Headjoint length is 8-7/8”.
The flute weighs 427 grams.
