Haynes #36394

Attic Find, #9 Headjoint

Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial #36394, made in 1967. Solid silver, Handmade model, pointed arms, soldered tone holes, closed hole, offset G, Bb shake, .013”, forged keys and touches, no adjustment screws, gold springs, C-foot, felt pads, traditional scale.

Haynes #36394 is not in playing condition due to old pads, but all the keys go up and down and the screws turn, no rust. The flute is very tarnish and has a few dents. An overhaul is needed to bring this flute back to top playing condition. Our flute occupies a special place between the Haynes flutes of two flute luminaries: Maxence Larrieu purchased his just one month earlier, and Aurèle Nicolet acquired his one month later. The headjoint is very well cut and of the proper dimensions. It comes in its original case in fair condition.

Maker’s mark and serial number on body only.

The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 12.0 mm.

Sounding length is 599 mm.

Headjoint length is 9”.

The flute weighs 396 grams.
