Handmade Close Hole
Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#35842, made in 1967. Solid silver, handmade Close Hole model, offset G,
C-foot, Bb shake, forged keys and touches, soldered tone holes, gold springs,
0.013” tubing, Straubinger pads, traditional scale.
Haynes #35842 is in excellent
condition, ready to play. It was converted to Straubinger pads at some time and
offers a more modern approach. There are no dents, and the cosmetics are good
with just some tarnish from regular use. Handmade close hole Haynes flutes are
much more difficult to find than their open hole French models, let alone one
from the 1960's. It has a sweet vibrant timbre, well-balanced and responsive
low and high registers. The original case is in excellent condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.4 x 12.2 mm.
Sounding length is 599 mm.
Headjoint length is 8-7/8”.
The flute weighs 411 grams.
