Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#32750, made in 1963. 14K solid gold, handmade French model, soldered tone
holes, open hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, inline G, C-foot, Bb
shake, .010” tubing, forged keys and touches, gold springs, felt pads,
traditional scale, A=440.
The Haynes golden age period,
spanning from the mid-1950’s to the mid-1960’s, is centered around Jean-Pierre Rampal's gold Haynes
#29333, made in 1959. During this time, a convergence of the right elements and
individuals at the Haynes Company led to the creation of flutes that players
continue to cherish to this day.
Haynes #32750 is a fine
example of the golden age gold flute. It is in excellent condition, recent
overhaul by David Chu, ready to play. The sound is even, clear, and full of
colors. It has a fast response and the right kind of resistance. For a gold
flute, it is remarkably light, and the entire flute vibrates under your hands.
The mechanism operates smoothly and the keys are well balanced. The original
embouchure hole is likely made by the same artisan who worked on Rampal’s
headjoint. It comes in its original case and matching case cover, both in
excellent condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only.
The embouchure hole measures 10.03 x 12.09 mm.
Sounding length is 600 mm.
Headjoint length is 9”.
The flute weighs 436 grams.
