Haynes s/n 25224

A Golden Age Regular Model Haynes

Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial #25224, made in December, 1955. Solid silver, Regular model, Y-arms, drawn tone holes, closed hole, offset G, Bb shake, .018", forged keys and touches, adjustment screws, gold springs, C-foot, felt pads, traditional scale.

Haynes #25244 was crafted at the economic expansion of the 1950s. Contrary to common believe, the Regular Model Haynes flute was not a cheap instrument, being priced only at a 15% discount compared to the Handmade Model. Unlike some contemporary imports bearing the Haynes or Powell names, vintage Regular Model Haynes were all made in the Boston workshop by expert American craftsmen.

Our flute is all original, some tarnish and a few negligible dents, the pads are old but covering and the flute plays very well. The tone is beautiful, evident from the exquisite headjoint and embouchure hole. A complete overhaul is recommended for professional use. It comes in a wooden case in poor condition.

Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.

The embouchure hole measures 10.3 x 12.1 mm.

Sounding length is 602 mm.

Headjoint length is 9”.

The flute weighs 444 grams.
