Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#22998, made in 1953. Solid silver, Handmade model, pointed arms, soldered tone
holes, closed hole, offset G, Bb shake, .014”, forged keys and touches, no
adjustment screws, gold springs, C-foot, felt pads.
Our flute is an attic find,
very tarnish, but no damage, pads are only covering adequately, ok for testing
purpose. The headjoint, with its small and well-cut embouchure, is fantastic
when tested on another Haynes body. The sound is rich and vibrant. The scale is
a bit higher as informed by the 596 mm acoustic length - probably between
A=442-444. Headjoint is not shortened. It is very rare to find a higher pitched vintage Haynes flute. The
flute will need an overhaul, especially to rid of the slight odor one may associate
with antique stores. It comes in a generic case in fair condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.2 x 12.1 mm.
Sounding length is 596 mm.
Headjoint length is 9”.
The flute weighs 407 grams.
