Early Wood C Piccolo
Wm. S. Haynes wood piccolo
serial #1898 (or 1888?), made in 1911, conical grenadilla wood body and
headjoint, silver keys, Bb shake, gold springs, A=440.
This vintage Haynes wood
piccolo plays very well. It is in good condition, pads are older but covering, some
tarnish from use, no crack. The pads are sealing very well, strong low D, clear
high register, very sweet sound. The mechanism is in decent condition. For what it is worth, there is
an extra shorter headjoint for playing in Db, it's unfortunately not ideal due to its shorter length. It comes in its original French
case in poor condition.
Maker’s mark and serial
number on body only.
The embouchure hole measures 9.4 x 11.1 mm.
Sounding length is 265 mm.
Headjoint length is 5-1/8”.
The piccolo weighs 151 grams.
