In 1927, Powell left Haynes
to establish his own workshop. For the next few years, Haynes over compensated
by producing many wonderful flutes including many gold flutes. This was all
possible because of the energy George Haynes brought upon his final return. Our
flute was made during this lesser known Golden Age period. See the article “Powell Flute #60 - A Personal Perspective” on our article page.
Haynes #10354 is in poor
adjustment and will need a full restoration. Although only a few notes are
playable, their beauty is undeniable, a reflection of the exceptional quality
of a Haynes flute. There is no damage other than a few small dents on the
headjoint. This flute comes with all the accessories and a rare leather covered
aluminum case in poor condition. It carries the label of Rex Elton Fair, a
Chicago dealer and a flutist who played with the Souza Band in 1926. This
complete package is being offered at a very attractive price.
