Almeida s/n 143

Elegant Boutique Masterpiece

Edward Almeida Flute serial #143, made in the 1970’s. Solid silver, handmade French model, soldered tone holes, open hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, inline G, Bb shake, B-foot with gizmo, .014" tubing, gold springs, Straubinger pads, traditional scale, A=440.

Edward Almeida joined Verne Q. Powell in 1948 as a key maker. He became one of the 4 owners of Powell Flutes in 1961 when Verne Q. retired. In 1971, he established his own shop in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Around the same time, Powell moved his shop from Boston to the nearby suburb of Arlington Heights. The only flute shop that remained in Boston was William S. Haynes Company.

Almeida was held in high esteem by his fellow flutemakers for his exceptional keywork, often hailed as the finest in the history of flute making, rivaled perhaps only by Rive in the 19th Century. Our flute is a testimony to this fact. It is in excellent condition with clear and even tones, the right amount of resistance, and quick response from top to bottom. It comes in a fairly new Wiseman French case.

Maker’s mark on all three joints, serial number on body only.

The embouchure hole measures 10.3 x 12.0 mm.

Sounding length is 639 mm.

Headjoint length is 8-7/8”.

The flute weighs 432 grams.
