Haynes s/n 40554

#9 Headjoint

Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial #40554, made in 1973. Solid silver, handmade French model, soldered tone holes, open hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, inline G, C-foot, Bb shake, .013” tubing, forged keys and touches, gold springs, felt pads, traditional scale, A=440.

Haynes #40554 is in excellent condition, last overhauled at Haynes many years ago and it is still playing beautifully.  It has some surface tarnish from use, mechanism is tight, pads are sealing well, no dents, ready to play. This is a one-owner flute and was very well taken care of over the years. The #9 headjoint is very responsive on the light .013” body. The embouchure hole is a work of art, giving the flute the perfect balance between high and low notes. The tone can be sweet and powerful - full of colors. It comes in its original case in excellent condition. We are offering this little beauty for an incredibly good price for a lucky buyer.

Maker’s mark and serial number on body only, monogram on headjoint.

The embouchure hole measures 10.14 x 12.04 mm.

Sounding length is 600 mm.

Headjoint length is 8-7/8”.

The flute weighs 393 grams.
