Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial
#30120, made in 1960. Solid silver, #9 headjoint,

Haynes #30120 was delivered on October 25, 1960, about one year after Rampal's gold flute was made. During this period, Haynes was producing many gold and silver handmade flutes for prominent flutists. It was also the time when Powell retired, leading many loyal Powell players to search for alternative flute options. Our flute is in the real sweet spot of golden age Haynes flutes. It was also the first of many Haynes flutes ordered by Albert Tipton (1917-1997), a
student of Kincaid. The excellent embouchure cut on this flute is no doubt prescribed by Tipton.
Our flute is a real player
despite its less than optimal condition. There are no damages or dents.
However, the pads and mechanism will need sorting out. A proper overhaul is
recommended for professional playing. In its current condition, it still plays
with a beautiful singing tone in all registers, very vibrant. It comes in its
original case in poor condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only. Monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.11 x 12.07 mm.
Sounding length is 600 mm.
Headjoint length is 8-7/8”.
The flute weighs 387 grams.
