Rudall Carte cocuswood conical piccolo #9213, made in London during the war years in the early 1940’s. Key of C, solid silver mechanism and fittings, silver lined headjoint, offset G, gold springs, Bb shake, G# button for right hand operation,
Rudall Carte piccolos are famous for their lovely sound and comfortable thumb position. This piccolo is no exception. It has a very sweet and clear voice. A=440. It is in good playing condition. The pads are old but still cover well, there is much tarnish on the silver keys. The embouchure was bushed with a grenadilla oval, probably a later addition, done with a very high degree of precision and ingenuity. The piccolo has transverse thumb keys, similar to how they are on a flute. The solid silver mechanism is very well made, the cocuswood has aged to a warm dark brown color, there is no crack. Original case in good condition. It was a well loved instrument.
Maker’s marks on headjoint and body, serial number on body only.
The embouchure hole measures 8.84 x 10.59 mm.
Sounding length is 264 mm.
Headjoint length is 5”.
The piccolo weighs 189 grams.
