Wm. S. Haynes Flute serial #33332, made in 1964. Solid silver, handmade closed hole, pointed arms, no adjustment screws, offset G, C-foot, Bb shake, forged keys and touches, soldered tone holes, gold springs.
Handmade closed hole Haynes flute from the golden age period is not a common sight in the market place. Most of the company’s closed hole volume went into the production of the heavy wall Commercial Model flutes. Handmade closed hole flutes account for a very small percentage of the total production. There were just not that many made. They are sought after especially by woodwind doublers.
#3332 is constructed with standard .013” thin silver tubing. The flute feels very light and has the beautiful sweet Haynes signature sound. The mechanism is in good condition, the pads are more than adequate for casual playing and should be replaced for professional use, the action is very good, some tarnish and small dents from normal use. Original case in fair condition.
Maker’s mark and serial number on body only, monogram on headjoint.
The embouchure hole measures 10.24 x 12.27 mm.
Sounding length is 599 mm.
Headjoint length is 9”.
The flute weighs 401 grams.
